Tuesday, 07 September 2010 00:00

Black Cat Bone take their influences from a host of blues and associated artists. Hendrix , Dylan, Freddie King, SRV, Percy Mayfield and Howlin' Wolf among a host of others. Leaning away from the rockier side of blues and head towards a more organic funky sound. Expect the unexpected! On Guitar and Vocals there is Simon Peare, on Bass is Tony "Jaco McVie" Carty and on drums is Shay cosgrave. So soothe away those "Back to Work Blues" after the holidays..... Bring your instruments! and get there early!

Parchman Farm

Tuesday, 14 September 2010 00:00

With a wealth of experience behind them backing and supporting major Blues acts including Jimmy Rogers, Joe Louis Walker, Robben Ford, and Phil Guy to name but a few, Parchman Farm have notched up a string of credits to their name. Performing on the main stages of many major European blues Festivals including the Lillehammer Blues Festival in Norway, Utrecht Blues Festival in the Netherlands, Jedburgh Festival in Scotland, and appearing no less than three times on the prestigious International stage at the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, Parchman Farm are without doubt one of Ireland’s most traveled and well-known blues bands abroad. Parchman Farm’s sound is a far cry from the heavy rock style that often passes for blues this side of the Atlantic, so if you want to hear a band whose music is firmly rooted in the true tradition of the blues and played straight from the heart, this is the band for you.

The Acoustic Music of Rory Gallagher featuring Barry Barnes (UK)

PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 September 2010 00:00

Barry, the dynamic front man of top international tribute band Sinnerboy, first saw Rory play with Taste in 1969 and Rory has been his biggest influence and inspiration from that day to this. After the death of his lifelong hero in 1995, Barry resolved to do his best to keep the music and memory of the great Irish bluesman alive and went on to form Sinnerboy, the undisputed top Rory Gallagher tribute band in the world. Last year Barry added another dimension to his repertoire with the solo acoustic show which he has recently toured in Ireland, the UK and on the Continent to rave reviews. Rory Gallagher was renowned for his powerful acoustic work and Barry faithfully recaptures the passion and excitement of his performance. Playing acoustic and steel guitar and mandolin, and with a voice that closely resembles the late Rory’s in pitch and tone, Barry brings all the great acoustic numbers back to life. The extensive repertoire includes all Rory’s acoustic material, along with unplugged versions of some of the most popular electric numbers and a fascinating selection from the work of artists who influenced Rory such as Son House, Ledbelly, Muddy Waters etc. All this is interspersed with colourful anecdotes from a man who really knows and loves his subject.  Listen to “ Out on the Western Plain”, “As the Crow Flies”,  “ Pistol Slapper Blues” and many, many more including a steaming mandolin workout on “ Going to my Hometown”. his gig is a must for all fans of Rory Gallagher and of good acoustic blues.
